Uranium Supply
The company manages the supply of enriched uranium to the electric utilities that own the Spanish nuclear power plants. In this case, Enusa acts as the manager of the supplies on behalf of these utilities.
The Financial and Supply Management of Enusa is the Business Unit that manages the contracting of supplies from all the world’s large suppliers. For the contracting of uranium concentrates (U3O8), this product comes from the five continents, whereas there are contracts with the leading suppliers for conversion services and, finally, for uranium enrichment services the company has contracts with the four main enrichment firms in the world.
The portfolio of suppliers has allowed Enusa to meet very demanding criteria of source diversification, security of supply and price, which in turn has helped Enusa, after its many years in the sector, to become a worldwide reference and collaborate with international organizations dedicated to safety and the uranium supply.
In addition to purchasing management, Enusa manages the logistics of all uranium operations that are carried out up to obtainment of the end product, i.e. the enriched uranium. It has extensive experience in the management of nuclear material transportation, and to this end it leases transport cylinders and shrouds, takes care of contracting the pertinent freight insurance in each country, and manages the Nuclear Liability insurance.
The enriched uranium is delivered to various countries, depending on the place where the refueling for the reactors is going to be manufactured. Because of the diversity of the managed supplies, and in order to secure the supply and adequately serve its customers,
Enusa has uranium stocks in different countries.
Enusa has a financial stake in an African uranium producer – COMINAK (Akouta Mining Company) – which owns a large uranium mine in the Republic of Niger. It also has a financial stake in the European enrichment enterprise, EURODIF, the owner of the largest uranium enrichment factory in the world located in Tricastin, France.
