Fuel Manufacturing

This activity focuses on the engineering and manufacturing of fuel assemblies which Enusa Industrias Avanzadas offers to the Spanish nuclear power plants, integrating the most innovative technology and the latest market advances. There are three types of fuel:

-PWR: Pressurized water reactors, under license from Westinghouse ( United States )
- BWR: Boiling water reactors, General Electric (Estados Unidos)
- VVER: Pressurized water reactors, Loviisa ( Finland )

Fuel Manufacturing Organization
Enusa Industrias Avanzadas has license agreements signed with Westinghouse for pressurized water reactors (PWR), and with General Electric for boiling water reactors (BWR). Enusa also has its own technology programs developed by a team of highly qualified professionals:

Product Engineering Organization: it offers fuel design and in-plant performance tracking services, as well as the definition and management of R&D programs which are implemented together with the nuclear power plants. This activity is developed by nearly one hundred professionals in the Madrid Engineering Center .

Core Engineering Organization: it supports the operations of both BWR and PWR nuclear power plants, performing the refueling schemes, accident analyses and thermohydraulic design. In close collaboration with customers, it also obtains the corresponding licenses from the regulatory authorities.

Juzbado: this is the center where the nuclear fuel is made. To this end, it takes charge of procuring the uranium and other necessary components. Quality Engineering controls and certifies the final product quality, and Process Engineering develops the equipment for manufacturing the different products. When this phase is completed, the fuel is distributed to the different nuclear power plants in Spain and the European Union. Fuel Services coordinates the inspection and repair campaigns, ensuring they do not affect the refueling programs. During the refueling outage, the fuel reception and process supervision services are also provided. For this purpose, Enusa has agreements and contractual commitments with the leading companies in the sector.
