Starting at 10:30 a.m. today, Thursday, the ENUSA fuel factory in Juzbado carried out the annual emergency drill, as stated in the facility's Internal Emergency Plan. Due to the situation posed by COVID-19, the exercise has been designed with a limitation of participants and variations in the use of resources.

Due to the worsening evolution of meteorological conditions, they exceed the design conditions of the roof of the manufacturing warehouse, both for rain and wind. Given a possible risk of criticality in the dust warehouses due to the accumulation of water, the emergency alert situation of the Category II site is declared due to “Catastrophic weather conditions” and the evacuation of all personnel present in the facility is carried out.

As a consequence of the rains and the accumulation of water, and as a preventive measure, operations to protect nuclear material are carried out at various points of the facility. While carrying out these operations, a person is injured and, after being treated initially by the factory's Medical Services, is transferred to a hospital in the city.

Emergency teams assess the situation and define the actions to be taken to return to normality. At that moment, the end of the drill is declared, which has been carried out correctly and within normality.

The drill is part of the Juzbado Interior Emergency Plan. These types of actions are carried out periodically at nuclear facilities to check the correct functioning of the Emergency Organization, the availability of the means and the coordination with the organizations involved.
